Racing Through the Year – but Focused on Safety and Value for Money

The excitement of the Grand Prix is now behind us and our normal peace and quiet has returned as we enjoy the lovely early autumn weather. Mindful that time is flying, Residents of Port Phillip has been busy focusing on driving actions around two key themes for this year – value for money Council rates and community safety. To this end, our March edition of PPM focuses on exploring the sneaky cost-shifting of the Victorian state government onto local councils and how this is exacerbating CoPP’s fiscal position, and we again ask for our readers’ help in pushing CoPP to carry on with the process of tightening community safety by-laws.

In addition, with 2026 being an election year in Victoria, we also take a look at how some councillors leverage their time on Council as a springboard to state or federal office, politicising Council in the process.

And, as ballast to the sobering nature of this month’s content, we round off this edition with an inspiring story of the good work done by the South Port Day Links – there are fine people in our community doing great things!
