Support RoPP so we can inform you and get our Community involved

RoPP needs your support

Whether you are a Portmate or not, one important way to support RoPP volunteers to inform you and take action on issues that are important to all residents within the City of Port Phillip is to donate. We aim to have residents:

  1. Get involved in a passionate, grassroots community association and achieve better outcomes for your community
  2. Help elect independent Councillors who will put residents first by focussing on getting the basic services right.
  3. Bring sensible spending to Council to reduce pressure on rates and charges and other fees.
  4. Ensure delivery of quality services, responsive customer service and sensible decisions that effectively address the needs of the community and reflect the diverse values of residents.

Port Phillip Council needs independent Councillors. For decades, our council has been controlled by state and federal politics, vested interests and councillors have used their position to launch into state and federal politics. Port Phillip needs independent councillors who are not beholden to political parties and policies. For example, Port Phillip currently spends:

  • Port Phillip rates are excessive because Council spends $100M more than Bayside, $49M more than Stonnington and Glen Eira.
  • $4.0M per year on affordable housing and homeless services when these are Victorian Government responsibilities and neighbouring Councils do not provide these services.
  • $10M per year on arts, culture and festivals compared with $1.8M in Bayside, $1.7M in Glen Eira and $5.0M in Stonnington.
  • $3 M on EcoCentre which is a school educational facility and should be funded by the State Education Department.
  • Money on installing bike lanes and removing car parking when most residents oppose these projects.
  • Money on a bureaucracy that creates unnecessary jobs, writes policies and reports that nobody reads.

Port Phillip must focus on delivering the basic services such as waste collection, maintenance of our infrastructure, streets, parks, removal of graffiti and planning permits.

Who is ROPP?

  • ROPP believes Port Phillip is better served by independent Councillors who represent residents, ratepayers, and businesses.
  • ROPP is a grassroots community association that advocates on behalf of residents and business owners for sensible decisions, responsible spending and lower rates and charges.
  • ROPP ran an election campaign for four independent candidates at the 2024 Council Elections and three were elected: Cr Beti Jay, Cr Bryan Mears and Cr Rod Hardy.

What has ROPP achieved?

  • Removed 38km of unnecessary and dangerous pop-up bike lane infrastructure.
  • Stopped the replacement of two lanes of vehicle traffic with protected bike lanes in Kerferd Road.
  • Delivered rates relief by passing a $10 million budget surplus back to residents in 2023-24.
  • Port Phillip was the only Council in Victoria that did not increase rates by the maximum amount in 2023-24.
  • Elected two Councillors to ensure the voice of residents is represented.
  • Stopped the dangerous and irresponsible building of public toilets near the entrance of St Kilda Park Primary School. This was destined to become a drug den.
  • Made the concerns of residents heard in Council chambers.
  • Improved local laws to help with anti-social behaviour and furniture on our streets
  • Our community association campaigned in 2020 to help elect Residents of Port Phiillip endorsed Councillors Rhonda Clark and Christina Sirakoff and in 2024 Councillors Beti Jay, Bryan Mears and Rod Hardy.
