Port Phillip Matters
9 May 2026
The team at Residents of Port Phillip is very pleased to be able to provide some very positive news in this edition of Port Phillip Matters. As many concerned residents may be aware, the Local Law Amendment proposal that evolved over the course of last year was carried at the City of Port Phillip Council meeting on 6 May. The sober, compassionate, and balanced actions of a majority of Councillors have now helped create better legal and organisational foundations for helping vulnerable people in our midst whilst at the same time taking concrete action against anti-social encampments that have caused fear in the heart of our communities.
In this edition, we also do a deep-dive into the bloated cost structure that continues to characterise Council and ensures that our rates head in one direction only, up. We then ‘compare the pair’ with a look at St Kilda and Fremantle, and we remind all interested readers about the important community meeting scheduled for Monday 18 May on the subject of additional proposed bike lanes and 30 km/hr speed limits.
