Our Charter

Mission.

To represent the needs of residents, ratepayers and local businesses, by holding council accountable to sensible spending, making rates sustainable and ensuring community-focused decisions.

Who are Residents of Port Phillip?

We are a community group who are passionate about our city and are concerned about excessive Council spending, councillor decisions that go against community needs, rates that are unaffordable to many, and poor value to most. Our frustration stems from significant rate increases year-on-year and whilst the Council wastes millions on projects outside their core responsibilities to our community. Money that is being irrationally spent on projects that have political agendas rather than being for the greater good of the community We are committed to maintaining the character and vibrant lifestyle of the Port Phillip municipality, and importantly we are not aligned to any political parties.

Residents of Port Phillip will

  1. Hold Councilors accountable to sensible spending on core Council services such as waste disposal, recycling, maintenance of road, footpaths, and open spaces, as opposed to party political agendas.
  2. Campaign to elect a majority of like-minded independent Councillors.
  3. Aim to reduce rates and fees to more sustainable levels.
  4. Empowering residents, ratepayers and local businesses with a voice to speak to council about issues of importance to them, and increase awareness within our community of our actions to combat apathy.
  5. Influence Council to build agendas that represent the whole community (rather than self-interested groups, council officers with agendas and political parties who currently dominate the decision-making processes).
  6. Promote fiscal responsibility in council budgets and demand that precious ratepayer funds are used for core council business activities which meet community standards and expectations.
  7. Oppose cutting services that the community reasonably expects from council. By re-focusing funds to core services, we aim to increase the quality of services provided.
  8. Advocate for funding of new infrastructure which is the responsibility of state government and developers rather than rates revenues e.g. Fishermans Bend
  9. Stop duplication of spending on services that are not a statutory obligation of local government.
  10. Aim to KEEP POLITICS OUT OF PORT PHILLIP

How can you help

If you have been outraged by the poor customer service, mismanagement, wasteful spending, spiralling rate rises, apathy of council and want a change, you can help by becoming a supporter  lending a hand by simply distributing leaflets  and posters or becoming a part of our planning and working groups or by making a donation.

We believe that you deserve a better service delivery and value for money from what you are currently getting from Council.

We want your help to:

  • To elect independent ROPP endorsed Councillors and change the balance of Council by saying no to Political parties in local government
  • To keep council focused on local issues and the majority community needs.
  • To reduce the impact of political parties on local community decisions.
  • To increase accountability of councillors and council officers.
  • To keep council focused on core services.
  • To make the City of Port Phillip’s rates sustainable for the community.
  • To ensure council better meets the needs of residents, ratepayers and local businesses in our municipality.

Have your say.
