Congratulations to Mayor Makin and Deputy Mayor Mears
Author: Claire (St Kilda resident)
A huge round of applause as Councillor Alex Makin steps into the role of Mayor and Councillor Bryan Mears is re-elected as Deputy Mayor. This dynamic pairing brings fresh blood, new ideas, and — most importantly — a genuine commitment to serving the community free from political alignment.
For Alex we’re sure this election marks an exciting new chapter, along with his willingness to listen, learn and lead with purpose. We can’t wait to see the innovative approaches he’ll bring to our local issues: cleaner and safer footpaths, revitalised dog parks, clearer council budgeting, genuine engagement and real-life “community” outcomes.
Bryan, congratulations on your re-election as Deputy Mayor. Your ongoing dedication, deep local knowledge and readiness to roll up your sleeves make you the perfect partner for this new leadership team. Passionate, inclusive, forward-thinking and rooted in delivering practical results — not party politics.
Here’s to two leaders who are ready to set a new standard: working collaboratively, keeping the community’s best interests front and centre, and bringing a fresh, open-minded spirit to the role.
With Alex’s vision and Bryan’s commercial experience, we’re poised to see meaningful progress on the things that matter — from cost-of-living challenges, the appalling decline in safety and rise in anti-social behaviour on Council property, transparent council budgeting, to upgrading our amenities and building stronger neighbourhood connections.
Wishing you both a very successful term ahead. We’re excited to stand behind you, roll our sleeves up and make positive things happen for our community together.
