Brendan Perera: Your Independent Candidate for Alma Ward

The most important thing for a healthy local community is the independence of its council.

Vote-1-brendan

WHY AM I STANDING AS A CANDIDATE?

The most important thing for a healthy local community is the independence of its council.

I am running for Council in Alma Ward. I am a resident of Inkerman Street, and a civil engineer by profession.
I have extensive experience both locally & internationally in managing complex infrastructure projects. The Victorian Desalination Plant (Wonthaggi), Metro Tunnel Project, and Level Crossing Removal Project. I am committed to bringing my expertise to council and ensuring local stakeholders come first.

Of late, there have been a number of bad decisions made by Council, such as the disastrous pop-up bicycle lanes, the Inkerman Street bicycle lane issue, and the decline of our main streets. It may be an unpalatable truth to many, but our council is only interested in pandering to vested interest groups & playing divisive identity politics rather than listening to our community. This is why I am running for Council. Help me get the politics out of council, and let’s get back to putting the community first!

MY KEY PRIORITIES ARE:

  1. Community Engagement - to be truly independent by listening to the whole community: residents, traders, renters & ratepayers instead of pandering to vested minority interests or activists.
  2. Sensible bicycle infrastructure – Ensure that future planned implementation of road upgrades and bicycle paths does not come at the expense of safety to road users nor at the expense of residents and business owners via the loss of car parking spots.
  3. Community Safety – Crime and Safety. We need to make our streets safe again. Free of Antisocial behaviour, theft, street campers and drugs.
  4. Improve our Streets – Prioritize Road Improvements and streetscape enhancement for Alma Ward. Enhanced Streetscape will help revitalize businesses in Alma Ward thereby fostering a community spirit.
  5. An immediate rates freeze – An immediate rate freeze by finding efficiencies without cutting services. Holding council accountable by benchmarking against other councils. Current budget of $250M and high staff count 850 is not sustainable.
  6. Customer Service – Improve Council’s customer service to meet the needs of the residents

I look forward to meeting you and listening to your issues and expectations for a better future in Port Phillip.
