Can’t Manage FOGO Bins? CoPP Has the Solution!
FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) bins are becoming more popular as a waste management solution due to their environmental benefits, such as reducing landfill waste and producing compost for agriculture and gardening. However, some residents and ratepayers of Port Phillip may encounter issues such as increased odours and pests if the bins are not properly sealed or maintained. Additionally, some may find it challenging to adjust to separating their waste into multiple bins. For those living in high-rise apartments or smaller properties such as terraces, where space limitations may make it difficult to manage an additional bin.
Fortunately, the CoPP offers a process to pick up and remove FOGO bins for those who cannot manage them.
Simple Steps
- Simply click here to access the council service
- Then scroll down to this button
- This takes you to some links to fill in. You need to state that either:
- there is no space at the front or rear of your property to store an additional bin OR
- you have alternative methods of repurposing all food and garden organics at your property. Only compost systems that are able to accept food items include meat, dairy, citrus, expired products and garden organics will be considered to opt out. (These are only two reasons – so use what is most appropriate for you.)
- RoPP has received feedback from residents and ratepayers indicating that once they submit the form, the FOGO bin is promptly picked up the following day. In addition, there have been anecdotal reports from residents suggesting that a significant number of FOGO bins are being returned.
- This feedback highlights the importance of assessing the suitability of FOGO bins for each individual property and taking appropriate measures to ensure that they are properly maintained and used.
